Corning New York produced some of the finest glass ever made in America! This vase is a Steuben glass blank, on which Hawkes executed in black cut to crystal a fantastic wheel carved Chinese Dragon. This is a top notch, fantastic piece! Hawkes did top quality cutting, engraving, copper wheel designs, intaglio work, etc.

The Chinese Dragon decor on this vase is the subject of many a glass book, shown in almost every book dealing with American Art Glass, Steuben Art Glass, or Hawkes Art Glass. The identical vase is shown in the book "American Art Glass" by John Shuman, page 157 and it's signed Hawkes.

I included a photo from the book for your reference. This piece has a polished pontil as shown in my photo of the base (although it may not be immediately obvious) and noted in the listing. Item without chips, cracks, repairs, etc.
