Spectacular early Victorian ruby cut and etched crystal vase. Seven of the eight scalloped panels at the top of the piece are intricately etched/cut with images and descriptions of the renowned North Sea beach town resort of Norderney, Germany. One of the panels reads, "Ein Fahrt Der Insel Norderney" or "A Journey to the Isle of Norderney". The eighth panel is inscribed M. From the first time Crown Prince Georg of Hannover (Herzog Van Cumberland) visited Norderney.

Became THE vacation spot for the rich and famous of Europe and abroad. This is truly a remarkable piece of travel history. I researched a number of photos, mostly from early postcards and was actually able to match up many of the buildings depicted on the vase panels. I will include this preliminary research with the vase. The vase stands approximately 9.25" tall and is about 5.75" in diameter across the top. The base is approximately 4 in diameter. The piece weighs nearly 3 pounds! The piece is in very good to excellent condition for its age. There are no significant chips, cracks or scratches. The panel etchings and lettering are in great condition. I found two very small flakes on the top of the piece. They are barely visible to the naked eye. There are also a few flakes on the base, but again only visible upon very close inspection or by touch. As with many pieces of intricately cut antique crystal, you can expect to find some very minor wear commensurate with age and use.
